The QDV updater and the publishing tool have been enhanced to support direct download.
So far, updates were always downloaded using the web browser and HTML pages. This was slow but this was the only way to remain unblocked by firewalls and anti-viruses because it used the port #80 which is always open because without it, browsing the web would be impossible.
More and more companies allow direct downloads of files having harmless extensions (they often block EXE but not JPG, BMP, etc.
The new design still published HTML files but in addition, it published BMP files which are encrypted to contain data from the binary files.
The updater now detects if the publication contains such files and tries to download one. When it works, the entire update process is carried out through direct download. Otherwise, it still used the old, slow mode with HTML pages.
So, the publishing tool now published in the same folder, HTML files (for old mode) and BMP files for new mode.
The enhancement should be 3 times faster for usual downloads and up to 10 times faster for full download (when documentations and large files are downloaded). Large files were split in chunks with HTMLs but this is no longer needed with BMPs.
You won't see improvement when downloading 7.21.893 because it'll use the old updater, already installed in your computer but for the next updates, you should see significant improvement if this mode is allowed in your network. On top of the update Window, you will see which mode is being used:
